Easter Egg Hunt!

We have been doing many fun and educational Spring related activities despite this cold weather!  Today, we read Clifford's Happy Easter and discussed the plot of the story.  We learned that Clifford and Emily Elizabeth went on an Easter egg hunt with their friends and needed to search high, low, underneath things, on top of things, and everywhere to fill up their baskets with eggs.  After reading this story, we had our very own Easter egg hunt in the classroom!  Each child found one hidden egg and then they got to open and enjoy the candy inside at snacktime.  The kindergartners had a ball doing this!  Please check out our pictures!

Learning About Plants

Morning Class

Afternoon Class

This week in Kindergarten we have been learning about plants!  We have: read many wonderful stories about plants, planted our own seeds, conducted a science experiment with food coloring and flowers to observe how a stem acts like a straw by bringing food to parts of the plant, and much, much more!  Among all these activities, one of the kindergartners' favorite activities was learning a song by Dr. Jean called, "Parts of a Flower."  Check out a video of the children singing this song.  It has been a wonderful way to help them learn about the parts of a flower (flower, stem, leaves, and roots) and connect to our study.

Save the Date - Detroit Zoo Field Trip!

Today we reserved our field trip to the Detroit Zoo!  This memorable trip is scheduled for Friday, May 20th.  We do not have a limit on chaperones - however we ask that only one parent per family volunteer- we would not have room on our bus for everyone!  If both parents are interested in going- one could meet us at the zoo.

In the past we have had between 10-12 parents come along which means that a pair of chaperones are in charge of watching over only 4 kids.  We will be sending information home in a couple of weeks about chaperoning, filling out background check forms, the cost of the trip and how to pay for it, etc.  We just wanted to give you a heads up so that you can "save the date" if you are interested in joining us as a chaperone!  Please note that this is an ALL DAY field trip.  We will leave at 9:00 am and return around 1:45 pm.

Suprise Circus Assembly!

The kids at Bemis Elementary have been working hard to read as much as they can during the month of March.  Our school set the goal that we would read 500,000 minutes during reading month.  We were so proud of ourselves when we found out that not only did we reach our goal and become better readers... but we were rewarded with a surprise assembly!  Our school wide theme during the month of March has been, "Reading Under the Big Top."  Today we had a circus come to our school!   There were two performers who juggled and rode unicycles and did magic tricks!  We were so impressed and loved it when they called a fellow Kindergartner, Tanner, up to try and ride a teeny tiny bike.  It was a great way to celebrate all of our reading progress!
